  • This sample photo tour has full of highlights as we make ourway from Osaka, Kyoto, Nara and Koyasan, with many stops along the way during the journey. These areas are famous for its numerous classical Buddhist temples, as well as gardens, imperial palaces, Shinto shrines, Geisha (Maiko) and traditional wooden houses. We will take you to many photogenic places! You could travel to Japan any time of year and visit any place and we promise you would return with great memories of the people, architecture, cuisine and culture.
  • Private Photo Session & Private Vehicle
    You will have the privilege of photographing a Geisha (Maiko) in a beautiful garden setting during a private photo session. Other private photo sessions such as local children practicing kendo swordsmanship can be arranged.
    Since time is limited, throughout the journey, we will use a private vehicle to maximize the number of places we can visit.
  • Non-Touristy Hidden Places
    When planning photoshoots, we will consider the weather, traffic, crowds, time of day, construction and more. We will find the best time to photograph for each place.
  • The Best Time to Photograph
     When planning the schedule for the tour, we will take into consideration the lighting and efficient travel routes to try to catch the best opportunities to photograph.

Itinerary

  City Summary
1 Osaka Arrive at any time. There are no plans until the evening welcome meeting, so spend some time exploring. Meet your local guide who will assist you during your stay. After briefing with the guide in the hotel lobby, go for a welcome dinner together to get to know your fellow travelers.

Osaka
Kyoto

After breakfast, spend time exploring this diverse city, including the Osaka Castle, Shinsaibashi, and the Dotonbori Bridge. Be sure to try takoyaki, the city's famous octopus snack, or share a group meal of Okonomiyaki. Drive to Japan's imperial capital, Kyoto, and spend the rest of the day photographing this historic city.

3 Kyoto Wake up very early in the morning and go for our morning shoot at the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest before the crowds get there. Our day continues onto many photogenic hidden places (Otagi Nenbutsu Temple, Saihoji Temple, etc.) Finally, after a full day of shooting, we will end our day with a visit to the Nishiki Market for some cultural exploration and urban photography.

4 Kyoto Again, we kick off the day with an early sunrise shoot at the Fushimi Inari Shrine, the site of the famous shrine gates. After our morning shoot, we will have special access to photograph a Geisha (Maiko) in a private photo session. We will wrap up our day with other classic Kyoto photogenic spots such as the Gion district.

Nara
Before heading to Nara, go photograph the Shirahige Shrine, with its “floating” torii gate in the water and Miyama which is famous for its traditional thatched roof (Kayabuki) village. In the afternoon make a trip to Nara, where Japan’s first capital was established in the early 8th century.

6 Nara Spend the day discovering ancient Nara. Visit the Todaiji temple, and see the largest bronze Buddha statue in the world. At Kasuga Taisha, Nara’s most celebrated shrine, stroll and photograph walkways lined with hundreds of bronze and stone lanterns. In the afternoon, stroll along Naramachi, the streets of traditional merchant houses and participate in a tea ceremony.

7 Nara
Koyasan
Depart early and travel to Koyasan, a sacred site for the Shingon school of Buddhism, located at the summit of a forested mountain. We will stay in the mountain temple for the entire day. Explore the temples and moss covered Okunoin cemetery. There are no planned activities so you are free to stroll around the small town. In the evening, enjoy the shojin-ryori vegetarian cuisine, and relax in a yukata or kimono.

** During the overnight stay in the mountain temple, it is run by monks so please do not expect any 'hotel service' type of experience.

Osaka
Early morning at the temple offers the chance to observe the monks praying, before a vegetarian breakfast. After breakfast, transfer to Osaka Station OR Kansai Airport, end of our service.
