On this tour, you will experience 2 nights staying on Terui Island, observing the birds closely without disturbing them from the observatory, and the amazing roosting of the Rhinoceros auklet in the evenings. The small boat we will use is the “Keimafuri-go” operated by the experienced Mr. Takaki Terasawa, a nature photographer based in Terui Island. You are sure to be thrilled with plenty of opportunities to observe the active breeding grounds of the seabirds. - Enjoy the taste of the Island
Teuri Island is famous for fresh seafood, such as sea urchin, scallops, octopus, and various other seafood raw or cooked.
Paradise of the Seabirds
Terui Island is 27km (17 miles) offshore from Haboro Town in Hokkaido. Over one million seabirds of eight different species of birds will come to the west coast of the Terui Island annually, from March to August. It is no exaggeration to say that this is the easiest place in the world to observe the Spectacled guillemots & Rhinoceros auklets breeding ground. Watching the beautiful courtship of the paired guillemots; seeing the dedicated parents return with food for their chicks at sunset; and experiencing the joy of the chicks as they eat. These are some of the sights you can only see in the summer breeding season.

In the morning, transfer to Haboro by private vehicle to catch the ferry to Teuri Island, the seabird paradise. In the afternoon, we will take a small boat to observe the seabirds including the Spectacled guillemot & Rhinoceros auklet. | 3 | Teuri Island | In the early morning, we will take small boat to observe the Spectacled guillemot & Rhinoceros auklet again, but to catch them leaving the island. After breakfast, observe the Spectacled guillemots from the Akaiwa Observatory, which forms the core area of the seabird breeding grounds. You will enjoy free time on your own to explore the Island for the afternoon. After early dinner, we will go out to observe Rhinoceros Auklet at night.
